Does she look excited?

This little girl is one lucky kiddo!
Can you tell how excited she is?

She gets to have Brad and me as Godparents!
I don't think she fully understands the years of spoiling (and endless picture taking) that she will enjoy!
Her older sister, never to be upstaged, also had to bust out the cuteness tonight.

Tomorrow night is our baby-sitting debut. The parents are trusting us (Brad and me) with both girls. That's right. A one kid to one adult ratio. I've called which ever kid does not have poopy pants.

We've mastered the art of Natalie; she officially thinks we're about the coolest people ever. But, the two of them together is a different story! Katelyn is a little tougher to impress.

Food Funk No More

I haven't really felt like eating or cooking much of anything lately.

So, tonight I was pretty excited to have actually managed to cook up something that I was excited about eating!

I even used fresh basil from our garden of potted plants.

Now, if I could only lose about 100 pounds I could be Giada DeLaurentis!

Kits

I'm totally and completely hooked on the monthly kit. I will not divulge exactly how many kits I get. That's between the mailman and me. A girl needs her supplies.

But, today I'm pleased to announce that Scrap-tastic now offers monthly kits. The products in the kit are all chosen from the store by the Design Team girls. The first kit is all summery products that I picked out. Here is a link to the kit.

Here are the LOs I created.

DUH-lete

So. . . Brad and I share an iTunes library. He has a little iPod; I have a big iPod. He got tired of hearing my "girl" music on his shuffle while he delivers the mail, so he "fixed" it. "Fixing" meant he deleted all the songs he didn't want on his iPod.

I thought that's what "fixing" meant.

Too bad "fixing" actually meant he deleted the songs from the library!!!

So, I just spent most of my afternoon re-importing everything Brad deleted.

Of course, I did treat myself to some new tunes in the process.

Had to have this. Totally fun!

Also ended up needing this. My music tastes need to be broadened.

Got a few songs from here, too.

You better bet I'll be sending Brad the bill.

7 Random Things

7 Random Things About Me

I was tagged by Nicole.

  1. I fell on my ass in my yard yesterday. The grass was wet, and I didn’t want my cute pink toes to get all wet in my sandals when I let the dog out. So, my plan was to balance on the edge of the decorative woodchip garden while Memphis did his duty. The wooden edging was wet, so when my navy blue sandal landed on it, I slid right off and landed SMACK! on my butt in the middle of the yard. Memphis just sat there and looked at me. He was totally laughing. I could tell.
  2. I took a one-credit golf class in college. I went to every single class. I improved my swing. I participated and had a great attitude. I bombed the final because, apparently, I don’t know anything about the rules of golf. I got a B in the class and won’t, to this day, golf.
  3. Both of my parents have twin brothers. My dad has identical twin brothers and my mom as fraternal twin brothers.
  4. I dropped out of college. I bought my books, moved into my dorm room, and went to class for less than a week before I decided to leave. I started again at a different university the following semester.
  5. I don’t really like yogurt, but I still buy it sometimes. It seems like a healthy thing to eat, and I get a little jealous because everyone else has it in their lunch. But, I don’t like the texture and am not a real huge fan of the chunks of stuff it sometimes has in it. It just gets rotten in our refrigerator; Brad has also stopped eating it, as the last time he ate it he had a huge hangover and promptly “yakked up” (his words, not mine) the vanilla yogurt.
  6. I was only ever grounded one time. The week after I got my drivers’ license, there was a minor crash involving my friend’s garage and my rear end. My parents took my car away for a week.
Darn, stupid, stupid Blogger. I cannot figure out how to get the numbers to start at 1. It thinks its being helpful by counting for me, but it's not! It's just driving me crazy. So, that's why the numbers are wrong.

Thursday

Created this tonight (and a little last night) for a few different challenges:
Scrapjacked
Parts of Speech Challenge

Still in a bit of a food funk. Tonight we had chicken breaded in Capt'n Crunch (thanks, Ang!) and sweet potato french fries. Still didn't really hit the spot.

Busy day tomorrow! And, then we're headed out of town for some family time.

Food Funk

I'm looking for some ideas for new things to eat. . .

I've been in a bit of a food funk again--a place where nothing sounds good to eat and nothing tastes particularly great.

I, of course, still manage to eat more than enough. I'm just never very happy about any of it.

I think I need some new things.

What are your favorite recipes? Drop me an email.

Monday, Monday, Monday

Thought I'd share some scrappy goodies early on a Monday morning.

Not big on altered items, but I did alter this cute little box. I filled it with slips of paper, one for each day in June. The idea was that I could write a word or two to summarize each day instead of keeping a journal. Yeah. Haven't written anything on the slips of paper yet.

In honor of Brad's recent run. . .

Brand-new Miss Katelyn. I can't believe how much she's grown already!

This week's One Little Word challenge: Use the word "MY."

Quick stop at Starbucks and then off to class! 12 more days, counting today.

Sending a signal . . .

So, I tried to call my dad this morning to wish him a happy father's day.

Apparently, my parents have disconnected their telephone and not left a forwarding number.

Yup. That's right.

They conveniently forgot to mention to me, their own daughter, that they disconnected their phone.

I tried calling both of their cell phones with absolutely no answer on either.

Apparently, they're trying to tell me something.

I {heart}

movies about stealing things.
Oceans 13 was not as fabulous as Oceans 11, but it was still totally smart. I completely feel like I need to watch it again just to catch the details. There was a lot to look at. :) Love Thomas Crowne Affair for these exact same reasons. Italian Job, too. Plus, those little Minis are totally adorable in Italian Job.

dreamsicles.
This is a little strange. I don't really get all that excited about Popsicles, and I don't eat orange Popsicles at all (only red Popsicles). I don't like ice cream bars either, something about how the wooden stick makes the ice cream taste. But, I'm completely mad about dreamsicles lately. I might have bought a pack of 30 last week. I might be almost halfway through them.

watercolors.
This writing class I'm taking requires us to keep a journal. We can choose to paint with the water colors instead of actually journaling. Totally fun. Maybe I"ll snap a few pics tomorrow to share with you.

the $0.89 Coke.
It's less expensive than any other Coke at McDonalds. But, it is seriously about two gallons of Coke. You have to take it from the drive-thru window with both hands.

my attitude.
I think this sums it up best. Brad and I were talking about the um, rapport (or lack thereof) that I've built with my classmates in a few short days. He says, "You're over-reacting. There's no way they could know you're a bitch after only a day." Nope, honey. Pretty sure they know.

embarrassing stories about your teenage years.
That's the topic for 6/13 at Fancy Simple. Visit us. Post a comment. We know you're out there. We just wish you'd speak up!

summer food.
I'm loving all things fresh, lately. This week cherries were on sale. Beautiful and tasty, although much tastier when covered with chocolate. Am very excited for summer tomatoes.

(You might be wondering about the rambling post about things I'm loving. It's because class isn't getting any better, and I cannot spend any more time dwelling on it.)

Confidence.

So, thanks a million for your kind responses to my little crazy cruise-ship, Mary Kay, grandma (that's what I've been calling the lady from yesterday) incident.

I totally let it get to me way more than I should have. It's time to let it go.

The lesson I've learned about this?

I hide in my job. I'm confident about how I do my job and my ability to always be better at my job. I'm not so confident about the choices I make in/about my personal life.

I will learn to be more confident.

But, tonight I will eat pasta and go to see Oceans 13.
I might even go for ice cream; the flavor today is turtle.

Priorities

So, I had the strangest conversation ever with a classmate today. She had to interview me about my personal life.

Really. What was I supposed to talk about? I couldn't explain the whole scrappy-Internet thing because no one who doesn't do it gets it. I don't have other hobbies besides things related to my job.

Really. We couldn't have been more opposite. Her hobbies include being a grandma, selling Mary Kay (She doesn't drive a pink car. I asked.), and taking cruises.

One of her questions was, "What will your life be like 10 years from now?"

10 years from now I want to have a Ph.D.
10 years from now I want to have a great job as an educational leader.
10 years from now I want to still be married--to the same person.
10 years from now I want a great house with a fantastic kitchen.

I told her this. She asked, "Well. You'll have children, right?"
I responded, "No."
She asked, "Well. You'll have pets then, right?"
I just stared at her.

It basically ended with her being all judgey and me feeling like a conceited, shallow, bitch.

I'm totally bothered by the whole thing, though. I continue to be bothered by it.

Summer

School's out for summer!

I carried on my end of the year tradition of calling my dad on the way home from work to brag about how I don't have to back until late-August.

Now, I have a weekend filled with all my favorite girls planned.

Tonight--movies and take-out with Nicky, Katelyn, and Natalie.

Tomorrow--sewing, cooking, and lots of laughing with Angie O. and Angie H.

Sunday--planning for grad class with a friend from work

Hooray for summer!

Happy Barb

Thought a happy list might be just the thing to cure my end-of-the-school-year stress.

1. Strawberry Banana
I've been slicing both up and eating them every single day this week. YUMM-O!

2. These two
Seriously. Could they be any cuter? And, you'll have to settle for separate pictures. Natalie refuses to sit still long enough to really have her picture taken. So, it's impossible to get a good shot and Natalie with Katelyn.

3. DVR
My love for this little invention knows no end. On the DVR right now--Dawson's Creek (the latest three re-runs), Beverly Hills 90210 (the latest three re-runs), Everyday Italian (at least a few episodes), almost all season of Grey's.

4. Some fabulous beauty products
This helps my hair--I {heart} curls when it's humid
My favorite summer beauty product--dry heels make me crazy!
The smell of this is fantastic--it makes me feel pretty

5. Going out to lunch.
I've never had a job where I've been able to do that before. Now, I have a little more freedom and can enjoy lunch. I certainly don't take advantage of it very often, but it is nice every now and then.

6. A good book.
This does not fit into that category. Finished it up last night and was totally annoyed. Totally. Annoyed. I'm very glad that I have a whole bunch of what should be great books to follow it up with.

Post a link to something that makes you happy.

A Crazy.

Brad is OBSESSIVE about our lawn.

Before we bought a house he used to make fun of people who spent every waking minute working on their lawn. He has become one of them.

He planted grass--not just normal grass, but some kind of special patch master. It's kind of like a toupee for grass, but it has to be watered and will eventually grow into real grass. Guess it's more like a chia pet than a toupee. He meticulously watered it and watched it grow.

Last night our lawn reached approximately knee length. Brad was complaining that he couldn't mow because the grass was wet (it's been raining non-stop here for days). I jokingly suggested he use the leaf blower to dry the lawn so he could mow it . He seriously considered it.

He has a giant pair of lawn shears (think Edward Scissorhands) that he uses to trim stray blades of grass. Yes. That's right. Single blades of grass. They broke last night. I'm afraid this will drive him to buy the motherload of all weed eaters. In fact, right now, even as I type, the neighbor is weed wacking. Brad is seriously jealous.

He's become a crazy--a lawn crazy.

I. Will. Not. Complain.

I will not complain.
I will not complain.
I will not complain.
I will not complain.

Seriously.

600 kids.
Scratch that.
600 middle school kids.
4 days of school.
Just imagine all the worst possible scenarios involving those two variables.
Let your mind go wild.

But,
I will not complain.

Instead, I'll leave you with a few scrappy goodies.

For this week's One Little Word challenge.
For my entry for the Pencil Lines DT search.

For this week's Scrapjacked. Anja Wade was the latest victim. . .

June 3

A very happy half-birthday to me!

My actual birthday is December 3. There's lots of problems with this.

It's a week before Brad's birthday. That's a lot of celebrating in a short time period.

It's less than a month before Christmas. I get all my presents for the year in December. What if I need something during the spring or summer?

For these reasons, I always joke that I'm going to celebrate my half-birthday instead of my real birthday. Brad won't let me, though, because he knows if I celebrate my half-birthday, I'll just want to celebrate my real birthday again in December.

But, my half-birthday will go uncelebrated again this year. Instead of a fancy dinner, fun cupcakes, and gifts I'm spending the day doing all the chores I should have done all week long.

I {heart} packages

Today, I got a box with

this

and

this

in it.

It also had this in it, which I totally jammed out to while I created a submission for their design team.

I squeezed in some time to make this with their May kit, too.
